It's an art post! Remember these? You probably won't as I've not done one for a long while. The more I have to write about them for uni the less I want to write an art blog post.  I thought I did a post on a Danaë painting but I was mistaken. There's a Danaë in the series I'm writing about for my dissertation which I did a little post about.

The painting depicts a mythological subject. In the Greek myth Danaë's father Acrisius asks an oracle if he will ever have any males heirs, the oracle tells him that he would be killed by his daughters' son.   Acrisius then locks Danaë in a tower but Zeus arrives in the form of a golden shower and impregnates her, Perseus was a result and ended up killing his grandfather.

The scene depicted shows the moment Zeus impregnates her.  Rembrandt first painted it in 1636 and later came back to it in 1643 and re-painted Danaë and the old nurse in a different style.

A number of things have happened to this painting; it was cut down on all sides and in 1985 it was attacked with acid.  It was badly damaged with most of it being Danaë's body.  The painting is currently at the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia.

The painting is different to other depictions of the myth with the golden shower not being shown.  Danaë however is bathed in a gold light showing the impregnation.  I had to give a five minute spiel about this painting in front of my fellow classmates and my lecturer who just happens to be an expert on Rembrandt, no pressure.

A lot of Rembrandt's paintings are spread out across the world and would be impossible to bring them together in an exhibition.  The Rembrandt Remastered exhibition is great as this is pretty much the only time you'll see a lot of them displayed together. It's also the only time you'll see paintings such as the Storm on the Sea of Galilee which was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in 1990.

The paintings are digitally remastered and they show so much detail such as the brushstrokes and you can get up close to get a better look.

The Danaë is included in the exhibition and is one of my favourites.

Rembrandt Remastered is at Smith and Caughey's on the 6th floor and is open everyday till September 13. Tickets are $15 on weekdays and $20 on weekends.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xx

It's been a while since I've done one of these mostly because I've been too lazy to paint my nails.  I was however motivated this weekend and added some colour to the end of my fingers.

I was in the mood for something neutral and grey paired with pink is one of my favourite colour combinations.

I'm happy with them but I also feel like something is missing, like glitter. I dunno what do you think? The only glitters I have is blue and red which I don't think will go *sigh*

I've had this for couple of months and I've finally remembered to do a post on it. *Oops memory problems*

Adult colouring books have been quite popular recently and I had to jump on the bandwagon.  I can't even remember the last time I had a colouring in book, probably back in primary school, but I do remember that I loved it hence why I'm so happy about this book.

The illustrations are gorgeous; intricate designs of flowers, butterflies and other things which become even more aesthetically pleasing once there is colour on the page.  I haven't yet done much but I enjoy switching off from whatever's going on and just adding colour to the page.

I also love the name of the book.  I've always loved to have a secret garden, when I was younger I created my own one at the back of our property.  Also reminds me of the movie 'The Secret Garden', it was one of my favourite films.

I got Secret Garden from Book Depository.  Johanna Basford also has another book, Enchanted Forest which is next on my list to get.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! xxx

The week before last I wrote a post about the exhibition my class was involved in.  The opening was that Friday and I went along to it.  The weather was horrible, there was a lot of people but I enjoyed it. This was the first ever exhibition opening I've been too and was a cool experience.  The exhibition my class worked on, Camouflage, is on till the 26th of September.  There is a catalogue which goes with the exhibition and I'm in it! We all had to write around 500 words about the artwork we were given, it's a cool experience to see your name in print.

In other exciting news I got a part time job! I'm working at the Rembrandt Remastered exhibition at Smith and Caughey's.  I'm up on the 6th floor when the art is. I had my first shift on Friday, there wasn't much people so I mostly just walked around.  I should remember to bring a book or some work to do.  If any of you are interested you should definitely come along!

Hope you all enjoyed this post xx

So I was at uni and I was taking a little 'break' on Twitter when Makeup.co.nz had a little competition. The first five people to retweet got a prize so I hit that retweet button as fast as I could.

Being the most amazing people that they are I was also sent a couple of the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks.

I won a 'How 'Bout Them Apples?' Cheek and Lip Cream from The Balm in Pie on Twitter.  This is my first Balm product and I mostly love it as it's miniature and it opens up like a book. The colour is gorgeous, cream blush confuses me so I've mostly been using it as a lip colour.

I chose to get Redrum* and Unicorn Blood* from Jeffree Star as I'm a sucker for reds and the other colours scared me.

These are amazing. They're very similar to the Lime Crime Velvetines in that it's a liquid lipstick and they last quite a while.  These don't dry out as much as the Velvetines which is a plus so they're not that uncomfortable to wear.

For me it was easier to use a lip liner beforehand so I could apply it nicely as my lips don't naturally have a defined line so I have to create one.  The applicator is very squishy and flexible and is easy to use.

When you first apply it you can somewhat feel it on your lips but the more you wear it the less you notice it on your lips which is great.  They last very well, for me it does however wear off on the inner section of my lips especially when drinking and eating but it's easy to just re-apply.  They come off easily with makeup remover, I use the Elizabeth Arden Eye and Lip Remover.

I may be jumping the gun a bit but Redrum would have to be my new favourite red.  The formula is great and the colour is gorgeous, for me it's the perfect red.  Unicorn Blood definitely lives up to it's name, it looks almost brown in the bottle and swatched it's a dark reddy brown.  This would be great for a night time look or the day if you're brave enough.  Overall I really love them, especially Redrum.

The Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks are NZ$32.  Makeup.co.nz are now selling Milani  products and it's exciting.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! A little fact for you all, I swatched both my arms as I realised it was impossible to take a picture of my right wrist with my right hand (the side of the button on the camera). I should of thought that through.

*These were sent to me but the review is all my own opinions.

It's been a while since I've done one of these. The last few months have been so hectic that I haven't done much blogging let along reviewing it.  Anyway hopefully I'll be back on track.

There was a free shipping offer on, need I say more.

Things were a little bit quiet on the blog so decided to do a little update.

My Aunt brought me along to a massive sale again, bought the exact same things.
